Design your own electrical diagrams
When restoring your car, document and map any electrical modifications.
During the COVID period, obtaining a complete wiring loom from Autosparks (UK) became difficult due to delivery constraints, so the decision was made to design and assemble our own.
After spending considerable time working from rough and rather approximate sketches, it became clear that a more professional approach was needed. Following some research, the ideal solution turned out to be QElectroTech an excellent piece of software that provides a free way (for real) to create professional-quality wiring diagrams.
So what's the outcome ?

After a few evenings scratching our heads, we eventually produced something that seemed both relevant and clear enough to help anyone who might need to work on the wiring loom in the future. Download the wiring diagram in PDF.
The main modification compared to the original circuit is, obviously, the swap of the too unreliable and weak dynamo for a modern alternator.
In addition, a safety circuit breaker ("kill switch") was installed. Operated by a key from inside the cockpit, it isolates the ground connection. This provides a useful anti-theft feature and can also help stop an electrical fire in an emergency. The rest remains largely faithful to the original design. The only other addition at the rear is an auxilary wiring for a working lamp: either a fog lamp or a white work lamp, particularly useful when reversing at night. An illuminated dashboard switch was fitted as well, helping to avoid accidentally leaving it switched on.
Finally, two connection boxes were added to simplify the wiring installation and allow easier future modifications. One is mounted on the bulkhead, while the second is located at the rear of the chassis.
QElectroTech proved simple and intuitive to use. Integrating both an original-compliant wiring layout and the additional connection boxes into a professional diagram was quite a challenge. We also managed to separate the under-bonnet components, cockpit wiring, and front and rear lighting circuits while keeping everything on a single sheet.Another major advantage is that the export function is genuinely free, unlike many software solutions that only reveal export limitations after hours of work... unless you pay for a licence.
We are very grateful to the people who dedicate their time to developing and making tools like this freely available to the public.
